Gooseberry Falls

We headed north last weekend up to the North Shore and camped at Gooseberry Falls State Park. It snowed the whole time and it was absolutely beautiful.

There are five falls and lots of rapids on the Gooseberry river as it descends to Lake Superior. We hiked the 5-mile loop from the campground to 5th falls. There was just enough snow coming down to frost the tips of the tree branches. The trail was wet, but not slippery. There are some spots above the river that would be spooky with an icy trail.
